Description
this is the final product of the huge Artist-In-Residency project we did at school, with me being one of the main designers and workers (you can see the concept I did here: )
the mosaic is made of colored glass and is 2'x 20'.
The mosaic expert who was the AIR, Arturo Ho (check out his site HERE[link]), was very patient with everyone and we managed to finish the mosaic and get it set up in time and grouted.
Of course, I do have some regrets about the final design (mainly the head of the falcon, which was drawn by someone else) but all in all this is something I am very proud of. ^^
The process, if you'd like to know:
-We of the design team got together and brainstormed, after which a sketch was drawn up and colored on a big grid.
-The grid was then enlarged, and put onto a very large sheet of butcher paper, which we then cut into three panels
-These panels were taped into large wooden boards using wrap, then covered with a fine sticky mesh.
-We ordered thousands of glass tiles, then after chipping them into smaller pieces with glass cuters painstakingly glued them into place over the mesh.
-Arturo and his team used the mesh to embed the tiles onto the empty wallspace, then used grout to secure the mural.
Hope you enjoy, I know the photo quality is horrible D:
